I have been to Cambodia a few times and found the best gay hotels. I initially travelled the country as a budget backpacker, staying in various hostels. If you are considering staying in hostels, I recommend both Lub D in Siem Reap (which has a gay owner) and Onederz in Phnom Phen.
This guide includes gay hotels only; some are male-only hotels, while others cater for the LGBTQ+ community as a whole. As more gay hotels are being built in Southeast Asia, they are becoming a more popular option for fellow gay travellers. I always recommend going out of your way and booking a gay hotel to meet both locals and other travellers alike, as well as support gay businesses.

Gay Rights in Cambodia
Social attitudes towards gay men in Cambodia are quite mixed. While same-sex relationships are legal, same-sex marriage isn’t. Many Cambodians are generally open to different identities and sexualities beyond the ‘norm’. However, some still see these identities as something people can change at will. The gay hotels in Cambodia have appeared over the last few years, proving that attitudes are changing. Check out the Equality Index for more detailed information.

Is Cambodia Safe for Gay Travellers?
Cambodia is usually a safe destination for gay travellers, and outright discrimination is rare. While you might encounter some curiosity or confusion in rural areas or small villages, serious discrimination or violence is unlikely. Just a heads-up: public displays of affection aren’t common in Cambodia for anyone, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
When planning a trip to Cambodia, finding the right accommodation can make all the difference, especially if you’re looking for gay-friendly places that cater specifically to gay travellers. Phnom Penh and Siem Reap offer various options, from luxury to budget-friendly guesthouses, each with unique charm and appeal.
I would recommend a least a week in both Siem Reap and Phnom Phen to enjoy both the cultural sights and the gay scene. If you are tight on time, you should be able to tick off some of the main attractions in each city within 2-3 days.
Gay Hotels in Siem Reap

What do all travellers go to Siem Reap for? Angkor Wat is the largest religious site in the world. In this city, you will see countless monks and monkeys running around. In terms of accommodation, I recommend you get close to the centre of the city so you have easy access to amenities like restaurants and shops. The tourist centre ‘Pub Street’ is a great place to base yourself, and you shouldn’t book anywhere further than a short tuk-tuk ride away.

This resort offers a luxurious escape for gay travellers seeking fun in Siem Reap. This men-only resort is renowned for its comprehensive spa services, including a sauna and an outdoor pool. The rooms and top-notch service add to its appeal, making it an ideal retreat after a day exploring the nearby temples of Angkor. The resort’s focus on privacy and relaxation ensures a restful and rejuvenating stay.
Men’s also offers a full gay sauna on-site, free for guests, but you can also pick up a day pass if you’re staying elsewhere. The venue includes lockers, showers, a sauna, steam baths, dry labyrinths, a large jacuzzi, and private cabins. So run around in your towel and enjoy yourself. The pool area is not clothing optional, so no skinny dipping or nude sunbathing. However, you can be naked in the sauna and spa area.

Rambutan Hotel & Resort is perfect for those seeking mid-range comfort in Siem Reap. This resort blends traditional style with comfort. It features a saltwater pool and is built like a small traditional Khmer village. This hotel was the first gay-friendly boutique hotel in the city, and the owners wanted it to be a safe place for staff to work and guests to enjoy, whether they were LGTBQ+ or not.
With its spacious rooms and convenient location, Rambutan offers relaxation and easy access to the city’s main attractions. The welcoming atmosphere and attentive service make it a favourite among gay travellers.
Gay Hotels in Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh is a very upcoming city; 10 years ago, it was seen as dirty and very poor. That is all changing, it has a great metropolitan area with the Bassac River as its backdrop. The dark history of this city and, indeed, the rest of the country will stun you. Spend 3-4 days here to soak up the atmosphere and history. There is no specific gaybourhood in Phnom Phen, but I do recommend you get yourself over the the gay bar ‘Heart of Darkness’ to experience gay life as a local.

This Accommodation is a luxurious, gay men-only boutique hotel that promises an intimate and exclusive experience. Set in a lush clothing-optional garden, this oasis offers a saltwater pool, large spa, and sauna. Meals are served in their on-site restaurant, and breakfast is included; it is an ideal choice for those seeking sophistication, privacy and some intimacy. Some Cambodians working at the hotel are more than happy to come and spend some time in your room. Just invite them up for a drink…
Nudity is permitted poolside and anywhere within the sauna complex but not in the bar and lounge area.
The men-only environment ensures a comfortable and discreet atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for relaxation and connecting with like-minded travellers and locals alike. Just make sure you check out the amazing Sake bar located close by! We recommend staying here if you are either a gay couple or a solo traveller, the environment offers up a great social space to engage with other gay travellers.

Pride Resort is known for its vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. The resort features a large outdoor pool, a bar, and a restaurant offering Western and local cuisine. It’s also a social hub, hosting events that make it easy to meet other guests. Whether you’re looking to unwind or socialise, Pride Resort’s friendly ambience makes it a fantastic choice for a stay in the capital. This is a perfect choice for Phnom Penh if you are travelling in a group but still want to be surrounded by the LGBTQ+ community.

Rambutan Resort is another gem with a sister hotel (under the same name) in Siem Reap. It offers a stylish and modern setting. Known for its excellent service and ambience, this resort features a saltwater pool, an international cuisine restaurant, and a garden bar.
The tranquil environment and attentive service make Rambutan a top pick for those seeking comfort in a central location. When I stayed here, I had to keep thinking this wasn’t a luxury budget hotel; however, it certainly felt good value for money almost every step of the way!
Our Thoughts
Overall, Cambodia has more gay hotels than I ever thought when I first visited. They offer a diverse range of gay-friendly accommodations that cater to various budgets and preferences. Whether you’re looking for luxury, mid-range comfort, or a budget-friendly guesthouse, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap have something for everyone. Each of these gay hotels provides a unique experience, ensuring that your stay in Cambodia is both comfortable and memorable.
